Since 1999, the Australian Orthopaedic Association has been collecting data on joint replacements in Australia. The National Joint Replacement Registry receives information from over 300 hospitals. Since mid 2002, the Registry has received information on almost all hip and knee replacements undertaken in Australia.
The AOA started the Registry to improve the results of joint replacement surgery in Australia. Currently the Registry monitors and has information on over 1.1 million joint replacement operations.
