St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee or Adeney Private Hospital (Kew).

How the No-Gap Check Works

  1. Tell us your details, health fund, and a few quick medical questions.
  2. We verify eligibility with your health fund and review your short-stay suitability with our clinical team.
  3. Your suitability is confirmed by your surgeon and anaesthetist after consultation.
  4. You receive a simple, written quote with what’s covered and any policy excess, plus a personalised plan (day-case vs overnight).

Medical Eligibility for Short-Stay Joint Replacement

Good candidates often have:

  • Stable health (well-controlled conditions such as blood pressure, diabetes)
  • BMI typically < 40 (case-by-case above this)
  • Good mobility prior to surgery and low frailty
  • Well-managed sleep apnoea (bring CPAP if used)
  • Low falls risk and able to use crutches/walker
  • Reliable adult support at home for the first 48 hours
  • Safe home setup (clear pathways, bathroom access, minimal stairs)

We’ll plan an overnight stay if you have:

  • Unstable heart or lung disease, recent cardiac events, or poorly controlled conditions
  • Bleeding disorders, or medicines that can’t be paused/bridged safely
  • Severe sleep apnoea not on CPAP, or oxygen-dependence
  • High frailty, limited mobility, or complex social circumstances
  • Inadequate home supports or long travel distance without assistance

Important notes

  • Age alone does not decide suitability — we assess the whole picture.
  • Final decision is made by your surgeon & anaesthetist with hospital criteria.
  • If short-stay isn’t ideal, we’ll plan a safe long stay and inpatient rehab pathway instead.

Health Fund Eligibility (Medibank, Bupa & others)

  • Active private hospital cover that includes joint replacement (usually Gold; some Silver Plus tiers)
  • Waiting periods served (typically 12 months if upgrading/new)
  • Financial membership (no arrears) and valid membership number
  • Treatment at a participating hospital (St Vincent’s Werribee or Adeney Private) with participating clinicians
